How to get to the Sew Curvy Studio
The Cuckoo Lane Studio complex is off the A4095 (main Witney - Woodstock road) near North Leigh; two miles from Hanborough train station and on Stagecoach bus routes 242 from Witney/Woodstock, and Bus S11 direct from Oxford - see links to timetables in main text. Click HERE for a map.
The address is:
Oxford School of Corsetry
Cuckoo Lane is easy to reach by road or train. The train station at Hanborough is then only a short bus or taxi ride from Cuckoo Lane. Due to Government cuts there is now NO BUS SERVICE to or from Cuckoo Lane on the weekends. If you do not have your own transport, then you will have to get a taxi from Oxford or Witney This will cost somewhere in the region of £15-25 per trip. There are no taxi services from any of the villages in the locality. Taxies must be booked in advance by telephone. See notes at the bottom of this page. In other words, if you are coming from abroad and have no transport, then please consider booking a guest house close by. Sew Curvy is in a rural location where transport links can be challenging unless you have funds for taxis. In addition, the city of oxford is currently undergoing many changes and there are road works at almost every corner making transport into and out of Oxford extremely difficult. These works are scheduled to be complete by autumn (fall) 2016.
By car, Cuckoo Lane is easily accessible from the A40 which runs between Oxford and Cheltenham. If coming from Oxford, follow the signs from the Pear Tree interchange towards Witney and Cheltenham. At the next roundabout (Eynsham) go straight ahead towards Witney/Cheltenham and proceed a little way, past the traffic lights. Shortly after the traffic lights, and almost opposite the Evenlode pub on the left there is a right turn into Cuckoo Lane signposted “Freeland”. Follow this road for a while and take the first left turn signposted “North Leigh”. At the end of that road turn right and proceed along the beautiful country lane until nearly at the end where you will see on the left, a signpost to “Eynsham Saw Mill” and “Cuckoo Lane Artists Studios” Turn in, and then immediately right into the lower car park. The Oxford School of Corsetry is right next to the original Sew Curvy Studio adjacent to the carpark. Although the classes take place in our own dedicated classroom, we do a meet and greet on our first morning at number 26 which has a green front door, just before you get to “The Cuckoo’s Nest” which is a little art gallery/shop.
If coming from the other direction, proceed past Witney on the A40 and head for Eynsham/Oxford. Turn left just before getting to the Evenlode pub on the right, and follow the directions above. (If you go too far, you can turn round in the pub carpark!)
Flying to the UK and then getting to Sew Curvy
There are a number of airports which are easily accessible to the locale - Gatwick, Heathrow, Stanstead and Birmingham. Coach travel to Oxford is frequent from Gatwick and Heathrow via The Oxford Bus Company however it is probably better to hire a car if travelling long distance. If you can travel to Oxford from any of the airports listed, then please follow the directions above 'from Oxford' as to how to plan your onward journey to Sew Curvy which lies 5 miles west of Oxford.
This accommodation has been highly recommended by previous students and some are within close walking distance incase of tranport difficulties.
A short walk from the studio this is a lovely Cotswold Stone House with a high standard of decoration and friendly owners. Tel: +44 (0) 1993 882292
The Close Guest House - walking distance from the studio. Tel: +44 (0) 1993 882485
Eynsham Hall hotel looks very grand on the website but the accommodation, although perfectly servicable is cramped and tired. As the hotel is a very popular wedding venue, it also may be noisy on Saturday evenings. It does have a pool which can make up for it’s shortcomings, but please be warned, most people are disappointed with the accommodation and one student measured her shower tray at 22 inches! However, it is in walking distance of the studio and rooms are inexpensively priced accordingly.

Buses run from Woodstock, Eynsham and Witney to North Leigh passing by Cuckoo Lane. Ask for the ‘Cuckoo Lane’ stop in North Leigh but please note, there are no buses to Cuckoo Lane on Sundays. Please consider this when booking your accommodation - rooms that are not so near, may be cheaper but it's a false economy.
